YogurBara, a drinking yogurt brand fronted by its character Bara, opened its Thailand pop-up at Siam Paragon in Bangkok. Verywhere designed and managed the space as a house rather than a retail kiosk. Visitors are invited over to Bara's home: they pass a picket fence and a yellow gabled door, sit in a curtained living room and finish at the kitchen counter where the yogurt is ordered and collected. Every wall, prop and sign was built from the brand's blue and yellow world so the character's illustrated life could be stepped into at full scale.

Approach

The concept is a visit. Borrowing the language of a house lets a ten minute stop inside a shopping mall feel like being welcomed in, with a picket fence at the threshold and a kitchen at the end of the route. The two brand colours do the structural work. Blue holds the walls, frames and floor; yellow is reserved for the facade, the mirror frame, the seats and the counter drawers, so the route reads through colour. Bara appears as a life size cut-out along the route, giving visitors a companion to photograph rather than a logo to look at, while floor graphics and speech bubbles carry the character's voice from the entrance to the counter.

Execution

Isometric drawings set out the house, lounge and counter as one continuous street front wrapped around the mall's existing column. Each render was then matched on site zone by zone, down to the curtain rails and the printed floor. Entry ran on timed batch tickets printed in the same voice as the space, and a merchandise corner of caps and umbrellas extended the house into things visitors could take home.
