Draped in Romance was the single theme for the wedding of Rawint-on Sintateeyakorn and Pholthep Promchiam, held in The Authors' Lounge at Mandarin Oriental Bangkok and designed and managed by Verywhere. The idea was to let fabric, not built structure, do the work. Layers of ivory textile drawn from the balconies and ceiling of the colonial lounge turn its double staircase into a soft, theatrical stage, so the architecture stays visible and the decoration reads as one gesture laid over it. Three keywords set in the brief guided every decision: draped fabric architecture, vintage lace romance, colonial elegance.
The Authors' Lounge already has a strong character: white balustrades, mint fretwork, a symmetrical stair. Rather than compete with it, the design borrows the building as its backdrop. Drapery is anchored to the upper balcony and pulled forward into the stage, so the swags trace the shape of the staircase behind them and the couple's monogram sits at the centre of a canopy the building itself appears to hold up. The same logic runs through the arrival: an entrance arch of gathered fabric, roughly six metres wide, opens the lounge like a curtain rising. A restrained palette of ivory, white, a natural green and olive keeps the textile in the foreground, with white orchids and trailing florals massed where fabric meets architecture. Lace, written into the brief as the second keyword, supplies the vintage counterpoint to the modern sweep of the drapery.
The stage was first drawn over a photograph of the lounge, then broken into five measured panels, each drop and width fixed against the stair, so the swags landed on the real balustrade rather than an imagined one. On the day the canopy carried a single mass of white orchids and hanging florals above the couple, with a row of cane chairs set beneath the monogram. Recorded partly on film, the finished space keeps the quiet drama the brief asked for rather than spectacle.
